Relax and enjoy the beautiful upper Zambezi whilst drifting slowly downstream on the Livingstone Drift Tour.
The Livingstone Drift tour begins with a safety briefing before boarding the inflatable rafts. Each raft has its own guide who does all of the paddling while guests are invited to take in all of the sights and sounds.
The Upper Zambezi River is subject to seasonal variation. Floods begin in December and normally peak in April / May. Therefore, throughout the season the route varies as new channels open with the rise in water level. The Upper Zambezi has numerous heavily wooded islands, which are dissected by channels that may be several kilometers in length and vary in width from one to twenty meters. The vegetation predominately consists of ebonies, water berries, palms and a tremendous variety of acacia and albizia. Any rapids encountered are small and at their peak are only classed as grade one, which is the easiest grade.
The rafts slowly meander their way down to the take out point with their informative guides pointing out animals, bird life and flora & fauna of interest. Animals, which may be viewed, include hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffe, rhino, and various antelope, as well as numerous bird species. The drift ends at about 10h30, where the guests board open game drive vehicles for their drive back to their accommodation. Rates include return transfers within Livingstone town, soft drinks, mineral water and snacks.
